History of TIA In Swathi's Words

Well Sree asked me to write something about my journey in TIA and lots of thoughts have come back recollecting the journey so far. Its been 4 years since i started this virtual group something which i started to kill my boredom and explore the online social networking system. 4 years back when me and my husband stayed in Germany, i had no friends other than my husband's few colleagues. I was introduced to orkut during those days by my sister. Internet always played a great role in my personal life as i met my husband through internet. So, this online social networking excited me and made few friends like Amulya and Neelima who were totally strangers to me. We bonded very well and we all came to the idea of making a community so that we can add more telugu married ladies like us and can have more fun. Little did we know that community started like that would grow up to become such a important part of life for so many woman across the world. For the first four months i used to send request to telugu married ladies to join the community and later most of the members started joining through word of mouth.

Well every good thing has to have a bad thing. As Sree has mentioned, community got attacked by few psycho hackers many a times. The original community which started on 21st June 2006 had to be deleted and i started the community again with same name of course but in a better organised way. With suggestion of one of the TIA member Pushpa , I felt its better to accept members by verifying them on phone which would prevent from accepting fake profiles. Since then TIA has become my full time job. Each and every member of TIA unless i know them personally has been verified on phone and a proper database of members has been maintained. As community grew i needed few moderators who could share my work. Since last one and half year many TIA members volunteered to become moderators with whose help TIA has been running smoothly without any major issues. Thus far, this is TIA's history.

When it comes TIA's role in my life, what i have given to the community, it has given me back many folds of that gratitude. It has helped me shape into a better person and its been always a learning process. It has members from various academic fields, members with various talents, members from all continents of the world and members of all ages, all having common base of being a telugu speaking married woman. It is a knowledge powerhouse on its own. With TIA, i can proudly say i have a friend in every part of the world.

This blog itself is another leap for TIA's journey. Talented members like Sree, Kalpana, Sireesha, Usha, etc are giving their time and energy to organize the knowledge we share in orkut in a more systematic and useful way for all its members and people at large who can benefit through this. Lets all come together, as we have come together for our beloved TIA community, for shaping up this blog in a beautiful way by giving suggestions, volunteering and appreciating the hard work going behind.

Why a Blog???

Being a part of TIA right since the time it was still TIA and not Mrs. TIA and being through the journey along side Swathi and many of the fellow-TIAns and having known the sense of loss when we kind of lost of our community to hackers and a lot of other happenings in it, I had thought about a database to prevent data loss and what started then is being continued still, so a big yay!! to me for having sustaining interest so far...

The loss and regain episodes will be mentioned by Swathi in her Journey in a post shortly hereafter., the idea of a blog or a database to store the valuable data and puts shared by many women across the world and here we have the blog all for ourselves... In no way is it going to steal the thunder from under TIA, it is just a listing of what happens over there, an overview at a glance...

Managing the community the way Swathi does with the help of few handpicked volunteers is really awesome. She guards it like a lioness and at times seems to be a HITLER as we lovingly call her, but all said and done, TIA is what it is because of her. What happens undercurrent never effects the day to day proceedings and that is the best part of it. There have been ups and downs, but we stood and got stronger thanks to each and every active participant and contributor.

To me, initially, it was just a time pass when I was abroad, lonely, no job, nothing to do after the husband goes to office, no one to chat with online, parents fast asleep due to time difference.. but without even realizing when and how it became an integral part of my life.. meant for social networking "orkut" and its communities come and go but to me, this one will stay forever.

Started way back in the last leg of 2007, stopped in between for a while and then reactivated in 2009 and continuing ever since, even the blog has crossed several milestones...

A certain section of the blogroll if you note has been inactive for a while, like Pregnancy Concepts, Beauty etc which have been untouched for long.. Reader's Corner too would have been in that category had it not been for Prasanna's intervention and later Sireesha's initiative.. avid reader, busy mom, student, working woman.. she manages all those roles with ease.. a big thanks to her!!!

Coming to active exclusive TIA blogs.. a biiiiiiiiiig applause to Usha for taking forward Shadruchulu from where Shraavzzz left and putting up prompt updates.. I remember the data dumped by me at one location with one template change and this was sorted and brought to order by Shraavz.  Now, it is Usha who keeps it alive.. yay!!!!

A writer herself, taking forward the initiative of story writing and serial writing by Shireen, Swathi does a great job of updating the writers' blog.. it is amazing to see so much of talent.

The couple of blogs that are inactive are Beauty and Pregnancy.. Srividya did her best for a while, Hima Bindu did an awesome job of collecting the data and my job got easier, just copy and paste.. so it is kind of crude without refinement during the latter part as my focus shifted from pregnancy to child care and no active volunteering offered..

Beauty started by Hyma is still waiting for volunteers... any help??????

The only odd man out in this whole blog-o-mix is First Steps, my personal blog, predominantly from my experiences and explorations but cannot deny the role of TIAns in gaining that.. the contributors in this blog may not necessarily be members of TIA or from the community info alone, any committed source who can give any value addition is welcome.. hence it cant be categorized as an exclusive TIA blog.. Among TIA'ns Renuka, Keerthi, and Visa are the contributors.

So, in this month to celebrate the anniversary of TIA, we present a whole new blog with makeover and all and a new member roped in to help... Kalpana, a word about her is, she is my best buddy, dedicated and someone who does not rest until the task on hand is done to perfection, so an apt choice!!!

And last but not the least, the appreciation award given to me by Swathi kind of jolted me to action, thanks for that...err.. must say everything emo kada?...

Wish us Good Luck... the entire team of TIA the community as well as the blog, the owners, the moderators, the members, the contributors... and yay!!! We do Rock!!

TIA Supports

In year 2007 TIA as a group took a leap when it was no longer just a group in orkut butextended its wings by showing its generosity towards public at large. After the successful donation to an organization called ‘Banyan’ in 2007, we as a group wanted to keep the tradition to go on every year of public service. As most of our members are staying in different countries, its not possible for us to do some thing more to public with our physical presence but we do hope to reach that level some day.

In year 2008, as promised after lot of discussion with different members, all members agreed to donate money to a small school of Deaf and Dumb students in Suryapeta, A.P, India. This was recommended by our very talented member of TIA, Swapna Komarraju, who also took the responsibility of collecting the money and spending it in the school. Swapna’s parents and siblings cooperated a lot both physically and financially. Other than Swapna’s own contribution, Swapna’s parents too donated money. Collection of money happened twice and the total money collected was Rs 60,000. Unlike in 2007, this time, money was not donated directly by cheque, rather things were bought which would have been useful for school as well as its students for example hearing aids, some games to play, stationery, books, groceries etc. After buying all the required items, Swapna’s father, Mr. Vasudev and siblings went to the school twice personally and donated the items. Though TIA members donated the money, the real credit goes to Mr. Vasudev who took so much interest, hard work and dedication. Kids in the school were moved with the donations and were very happy with the things donated to them.

Ultimately in year 2009, Mr. Vasudev and his friends decided to form their own little charity organization named "Asraah" which would help those students without any middle man in between. This way there will be more transparency as the amount donated by people will reach directly to the students and their needs. Some members of TIA have constantly donated money to the organization every month doing the best they can do for the society. I request everybody whoever reads this post to spread the information about this charity organization and inspire people to donate as this is one of the most genuine organizations with genuine people who are looking forward to do something good for the society.
